Marangu route is a popular route a.k.a coca-cola route because people sleep in huts, also is limited route number of bed determine how many people to hike a day. Marangu is the original route in MT Kilimanjaro.
As well huts are shared with bunk beds, route ascending and descending in the same way.

On this 5 Days Marangu Route, You will be picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport to the hotel in Moshi (915 m/ 3000 ft.) where you will overnight and get prepare your gear and for briefing.

ROUTE ITINERARY

DAY 1 Marangu gate (1879m/6164ft) to Mandara hut (2720m/9,000ft), 8.9 km, 4-5 hours

Departure from hotel to Marangu gate after finishing gate registration hike will start. Pass through
Narrow trail through the rainforest of Kilimanjaro for the most of the hike to Mandara hut. Lunch in the middle of the trail. After getting Mandara hut to relax for a hot beverage, after that take a short walk to Maundi Crater. All huts have beds with mattresses

Meal Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

DAY 2 Mandara hut (2720m/9,000ft) to Horombo hut (3720m/12,200ft) | 11 Km, 6 – 7 Hours

After breakfast leave Mandara hut pass through forest for a while to heather to Moorland at Horombo hut.
If the weather is clear, enjoy beautiful views of Mawenzi peak and Kibo peak.
Horombo hut is a junction point for hikers those ascending, descending and acclimatizing.

Meal: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner.

 

DAY 3 Horombo hut (3720m/12,200ft) to Kibo hut (4720m/15,580ft) 10km, 6-7 hours

Hike through the Moorland to alpine desert of Kilimanjaro upper altitude. Crossing saddle area with sand to have lunch before Kibo hut and stunning view of both Kibo and Mawenzi peak. Reach Kibo hut around afternoon or late afternoon rest and early dinner and prepare for your midnight climb.

DAY 4 Summit day from Kibo huts (4720m/15,580ft) to Uhuru peak 5895m/19341ft)

Still alpine desert. Wake up at midnight to a light breakfast ready for last push. You do this climb in the dark with headlamps or flashlights. It will be very cold until you start descending, so you need all of your warm layers. This will be the most difficult part of the trek, a positive mind is very important.
Switch back up steep scree or possibly snow to emerge at Gillman’s point is challenges at (5685m//186252ft). To go up there at night, the reason is to have sunrise up there. After summit stay descent to Kibo huts have rest, and then lunch, collect your belongings and cross the saddle to Horombo hut. Eat dinner and get some good sleep

DAY 5 Horombo Huts ( 3720/12204ft) To Marangu gate ( 1879m/ 6164ft) to Moshi hotel (950m/ 3116ft 19km 6-7hours

Wake, as usual, pack and descend through the moorland via Mandara huts. Have lunch there then proceed rocking down to gate to exit. Around 2or 3 pm you should reach there at Marangu gate. Remember to tip your guides, cooks and porters. A private car will take you back to the hotel in Moshi for your celebration.
