The Umbwe route is the most challenge and difficult route to hike on Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing due to its steepness right from the beginning of the trek. On that reason of steepness made the Umbwe route to have fewer hikers hence less crowded. The path leads to the thick tropical forest. The first camp is between rain forest and heather zone. When get at Barranco camp met with another route from Machame, Lemosho and Shira route and then proceed the same path.
You will be picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport to the hotel in Moshi (915 m/ 3000 ft.) where you will overnight and get prepare your gear and for briefing.

SAFARI ITINERARY
DAY 1 Umbwe gate (1800m/5,905ft) to Umbwe camp 2800m/ 9190ft) 10 km, 5-7 hours.
Guide will take you on the long drive to Machame gate for payment and back to Umbwe gate for the last registration, have your lunch box and then start your hike. Pass on the narrow track road through thick rain forest with mist, forge as well little shower or rain .
For a while, 1.5 hours start the path to the camp and more steepness beginning. Camp is inside the forest, when you arrive you will find your camp is already set up by the porter who runs ahead.
Meal Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
DAY 2 Umbwe camp (2800m/9190ft) to Barranco camp (3900m/12795ft) 8 km, 4-5 hours.
Your trek will start steeply through rain forest to heather and Moorland up to Barranco camp site. This day more steepness as going up, as well you will be offered incredible view of Kibo peak.
Steepness is 16-18-19 degrees of gradient is challenge because of steepness some breaks on the way to enjoy the view and catch a breath. As usual when you get there everything is already arranged. Overnight at Barranco campsite.

DAY 3 Barranco camp(3900m/12795ft) to Karanga camp(3995m/13106ft); 3h-4h, 6km
Climbing to Karanga camp through great Barranco wall, a.k.a breakfast. Start gradual few minutes start climbing the wall at 19-20 degree of gradient take 1h-1.5h cross the wall to the 4200m enjoy incredible view of the Kibo and lower slope of Mount Kilimanjaro sea cloud like at lower depend on weather of that day. Descend to Karanga camp site through alpine desert and Karanga valley to Karanga camp (3995m)
Meal: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner.
DAY 4 Karanga camp(3995m/13106ft) to Barafu camp(4673m/15331ft): 3h-4h 4km
Short climbing to base camp (Barafu camp) through alpine desert. Enough rest for the last push. Barafu camp at (4672m) is on narrow ridge with no wind block and remarkable view of Kibo and Mawenzi peak. The Barafu camp is colder than before because of wind and as go higher as colder after 200m up loss one degree of centigrade
DAY 5 Barafu Camp(4673m/15331ft) to Mweka Camp(3100m/10170ft)
Night hike to the peak (summit) pass Stella point through alpine desert to arctic zone. Barafu camp to summit is 6h-7h in 4.1km, this time is challenging day of entire trip, need strong confidence. From base camp to Stella point at 5756m/18886ft) is 6h-7h in 4km, time for the incredible view of the sunrise, temperature is -5℃ to -12℃ depending on weather. Zigzag path to avoid steepness with loss scree. Stella point to summit (Uhuru Peak) (5895m,19300ft) 0.9km 1h-1h30m gradual ascent along the bare path or snow –covered path depending on weather. Enjoy remarkable view of Rebmann glacier, Heim glacier and Southern ice field on the left side and crater and northern ice field and Ash Pit long way on right side
Descent from the summit to base camp take 3h-4h, where group going to have short rest and pack up. Barafu camp to Mweka camp at 3100m is 4h 7.5 km, the path down pass through alpine desert, moorland and heath land.

DAY 6 Mweka Camp(3100m/10170ft) to Moshi(950m/ 3113ft)
Mweka camp to Mweka gate (1640m) 3h-4h, 10 km descending through forest (rain forest), normally is wet and slip so take care, from Mweka gate to the hotel with private vehicle.
