The rongai route is the one of Kilimanjaro climbing easiest routes and is not popular route. Normally on this route is 6 days on short path, and 7 days on long path. Length of 6 Days Rongai Route Climbing is 70km total, 7 Days Rongai Route Climbing 77km total.
The Rongai route is more stunning than the Marangu route easier than all route in this mountain and the success rate on this route is very higher. Rongai is tented route while Marangu is hut route. The Rongai starts on the North side of the mountain just south of the Kenyan border. The Rongai joins the Marangu for the summit climb, then you descent the Marangu route south east side, so you will see Kili from many view points.
You will be picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport to the hotel in Moshi (915 m/ 3000 ft.) where you will overnight and get prepare your gear and for briefing.
ROUTE ITINERARY
DAY 1 Hotel in Moshi (950m/3,113ft) to Nalemuru (2364m/7755ft) to Simba (Sekimba) camp (2671m/8763ft)7km.4h
Through the pines forest and then short mountain to the heathers at the camp. Transfer you, by private vehicle through villages, bananas and coffee plantations for 4 hours to the wooden villages of Nalemuru. After signing in you beginning the hike on a wide path winding through field potatoes, then enter pine forest and mountain forest to heather to simba camp with the view of plains on Kenyan side.
Meal Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
DAY 2 Simba camp (2671m/8763ft) to second cave (3450m/11320ft) 7km 3-4 hours
Walk is a steady ascent at 5-7 degree of gradient up to the second cave. Path will offer you as stunning view of Kibo and eastern ice fields on the crater rim. Overnight at second cave.
Meal: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner.
DAY 3 Second cave (3450m/11320ft) to third cave (3870m/12700ft) 3km, 3 hours
Moor land to alpine, you proceed steady ascent of 5 degree of gradient take you up to the third cave. Closer now the eastern ice field on the crater rim, continue to draw your up wards. On this day some of the passenger start filling the mountain

DAY 4 Third cave (3870m/12700ft) to kibo huts (4720m/16,000ft) 7km 4 hours
Here is totally alpine desert through on that to hike up to the Kibo which is base camp and where you join the popular Marangu route. Rest and get preparation for your final ascent .

DAY 5 Summit day from Kibo huts (4720m/16000ft) to Uhuru Peak (5895/19341ft)
Still alpine desert. Wake up at midnight to a light breakfast ready for last push. You do this climb in the dark with head lamps or flash lights. It will be very cold until you start descending, so you need all of your warm layers. This it will be most difficult part of the trek, positive mind is very important.
Switch back up steep scree or possibly snow to emerge at Gillman’s point is challenges at (5685m//186252ft). To go up there at night, reason is to have sun rise up there. After summit stay descent to Kibo huts have rest, and then lunch, collect your belongings and cross the saddle to Horombo hut. Eat dinner and get some well sleep

DAY 6 Horombo huts ( 3720/12200ft) To Marangu gate ( 1830m/ 6,000ft) to Moshi hotel (950m/ 3113ft 19km 6-7hours
Wake as usual, pack and descend through the moorland via Mandara huts. Have lunch there then proceed rocking down to gate to exit. Around 2or 3 pm you should reach there at Marangu gate. Remember to tip your guides, cooks and porters. Private car will take you back to the hotel in Moshi for your celebration.
